Innovative Teenagers start Sandwatch in Florida, USA
Welcome to the first ever teenage group to start a Sandwatch Program on their own!
The YMCA Teen Leaders Club of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, USA, have started their own Sandwatch group at Mickler’s Landing Beach on the northeast coast of Florida as part of the YMCA Service and Leadership program. They are the first ever group of teenagers to start a Sandwatch program without any adult supervision. Soleil Shah, 11th grade, founded a chapter of Sandwatch in 2024. She introduced The Sandwatch Foundation to her fellow leaders and persuaded her peers to join this project. The five High School students in the group were eager to participate. So far, they have made three monitoring visits to Mickler’s Landing Beach and are keen to make a difference to the beach environment. Their data can be viewed on the Beach Records platform at https://www.sandwatchfoundation.org/brv3-usa-mickler-en.html
