The Sandwatch Foundation coordinates the network of schools and community groups who actively monitor changes in their beach environments, evaluate the problems and conflicts, and take action to address beach issues.  In this decade of escalating and dangerous climate change, the Sandwatch Foundation has launched a new programme called Beach Records to take positive action to adapt to climate change in a framework of education for sustainable development.

Sandwatch is coordinated by the non-profit Sandwatch Foundation, operated by two volunteer directors who have run the program to date and assisted by a communications advisor. The program relies on the input of volunteer teachers and associates around the world.
Sandwatch has received support for activities over the years from organisations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the University of Puerto Rico's Sea Grant College Program.
