December 2017: Assessment of the Impacts of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico.
In September 2017, two major hurricanes, Irma and Maria, moved over Puerto Rico, causing immense damage to people, properties, infrastructure, utilities and the environment - please click here to read the report and see some photos of the damage.

March 2016: Sandwatch expands to Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, Rincon, Puerto Rico.
Recently, a group of students from the Manuel García Pérez High School began studying the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve (TPMR) in Rincón, Puerto Rico. To aid them, the students initiated the Sandwatch Program in the Reserve.
24 students and teachers will start monitoring Steps Beach in Rincon.

2016: Expanding Sandwatch to Mexico
The Puerto Rico Guardarenas group trained groups in Oaxaca Mexico in Sandwatch and there is now an active Guardarenas Mexico – Oaxaca group

Since 2008, several Sandwatch training workshops were held in Puerto Rico – coordinated by the University of Puerto Rico Sea Grant College Program. Eighteen Sandwatch groups have been established around Puerto Rico, and around half of them are still active in 2016. August 2008: Sandwatch Training Workshop held at Boqueron, Puerto Rico
25 teachers and 15 members of Parques Nacionales de Puerto Rico met in Boqueron to learn about Sandwatch and discuss how to start the program in Puerto Rico.
